So crowded, and so empty

I’m not quite sure what possessed me to drive through Napa to get back to Marin from Alexander Valley. Maybe it was the horrendous wines tasted at one of the Alexander Valley wineries. Maybe I just wanted to get into Napa for kicks, until the book comes out.

But what I realized in driving down that congested street of Napa Valley was how much more crowded it was there than in Alexander Valley or Dry Creek. As if someone had shut down the tourist spigot on the Napa border. It was interesting because it only took about 20 minutes to drive from Healdsburg to Callistoga, the first stop in the Valley in the north.
I think this, once again, has to do with the 800 pound Gorilla, being Napa. But whatever it is, I do have to say that I love the quieter traffic of Dry Creek and Alexander Valley much more than Napa.
