Alexander Valley AVA
One of the top California wine-growing regions for Cabernet Sauvignon. It's Sonoma's hidden valley.
Alexander Valley sits quietly in the north-east corner of Sonoma County. Compared to it’s Zin-producing neighbor, Dry Creek Valley, Alexander Valley is largely invisible. The number of wineries is relatively small, and the borders for the region are hard to distinguish. However, while the area might be fairly quiet, the punch of quality of grapes is not.
In Alexander, you’ll find some of the best California Cabernet this side of the Columbia river. In addition to Cabs, the other Bordeaux varietals: Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot also do exceptionally well. Alexander Valley is also home to the winery whom holds the only 100pt wine rating in the entire Sonoma County—Verite, for their Bordeaux Blend. Did I mention the Cabernet grows extremely well here? And with Cabernet comes it’s white counterpart—Chardonnay. California’s unofficial favorite white is a staple in these parts.
Alexander Valley overlaps the towns of Geyserville and Healdsburg, California.
